Despite living in an actual castle, happily ever after is evading Margaret ‘Maggie’ Moore.

From her bedroom in the Tower of London, twenty-six-year-old Maggie has always dreamed of her own fairy-tale ending.

Yet this is twenty-first century London, so instead of knights on white horses, she has catfish on Tinder. And with her last relationship ending in spectacular fashion, she swears off men for good.

And then a chance encounter with Royal Guard Freddie forces Maggie to admit that she isn’t ready to give up on love just yet… But how do you catch the attention of someone who is trained to ignore all distractions?

Can she snare that true love’s first kiss… or is she royally screwed?

Love is in the heir in this royally good rom com – perfect for anyone who likes relatable heroines (with great hair), hot and aloof book boyfriends (with great hats), near misses, almost kisses and a corgi or two.

    Early 2000s Rom Com Feel
I actually read her second book first and enjoyed it, and so I decided I would read this one too. It is super cute! Think early 2000s rom-com, with that Princess Diaries feel good moments and embarrassing cringe moments. I felt the second hand embarrassment with this for sure! I have never been to London, but loved the descriptions of the place and it made the place feel like another character in the novel, and not just the setting. The chemistry between the two characters was awesome, and I even enjoyed the other characters that we meet (except those cringeworthy online dates!). Highly recommend it to all who miss those early 2000s rom-coms and want a feel good romance story.

    British Rom Com
Not only I’m a sucker for rom coms I’m a sucker for British rom coms. And Megan Clawson’s debut rom com is indeed a very British rom com. I mean it set in the Tower of London it doesn’t get more British than that.Maggie is one of the rom com heroines that I found myself relating to the most. I mean im not British I don’t live in the Tower of London and my dad’s not a beefeater. But I am the daughter of a former Marine turned LEO and the scene Maggie went through with her under clothes I can relate to. Plus, Maggie’s sassy and a book and history nerd.Falling for the Royal guard will keep you laughing from page one. Maggie has a large extended family though not related by blood. And of course, this rom com deals with grief that I could relate to. As will most readers. Pick this one up you weren’t be disappointed.

    Story Meh. Descriptions A+
I will say she does a spectacular job in describing London, and the Tower. I felt like I was back! Even better than being back in London, I was getting a behind the scenes look! I’m walking around the Tower where people live and working there too! I’d read a walking tour of London from her any day. The story was so dull and predictable. I will be honest that romance is not my favorite genre for this failing in most romance novels. Oh, a girl whose heart is broken, she trips over everything, and falls into a handsome man. 🙄 Yawn. Let’s hear more about the author herself and her life in the Tower!

    Well-written, engaging and FUN!
I follow the author on her lovely Instagram and have been excited to read her book. I loved all the facts, secrets and ghost stories about the Tower of London that she dove into her story. And the story itself was quite good. I found myself in tears near the end. I only wish it was maybe one chapter longer, as I’d like to enjoy how it wraps up. I found myself also wishing to see more of the other guardsmen in the book, so I hope she considers writing more in the future!

    Missing pages!
Updated to add that Megan reached out to me and got me a proper book with all the pages. She is the kindest and cares so much for her readers. Her publishers even hunted down the issues to resolve it so no other readers have this problem. Thank you!! -I have now received two books, the original purchase and it’s replacement, and BOTH are literally missing 33 pages, pages 21-52, and has pages 53-84 repeated twice?! Anyone else have this issue? How do I find a complete book?!

    A cute story
I found the book to be quite enjoyable. Much like a Netflix rom-com. If you are looking for a rom-com, this would be a good book for you. There are certainly elements of self deprecation/loathing, as well as a self body shaming, but as a person that also finds herself not all together liking her body, it just made me connect all the more with the FMC. About the only thing that bothered me was that in this modern world of technology, how little research the FMC did before going on a date.

    Absolutely brilliant!
I don’t think I stopped smiling the entire time I read this book. It was fascinating to read about what life is like for the lucky few who get to live their lives surrounded by such rich and wonderful history. I truly loved it and I can’t wait to read more from this author! One question though, how do I get my own royal guard? Lol

    Fun premise, amateur writing
I wanted to like this. I love the Tower of London and all of the history surrounding it. I thought the premise was fun and I enjoy the author’s IG videos. I just don’t like this book. It’s as if she wrote it and then went back through the story with a thesaurus and added adjectives wherever possible…like, to a distracting degree. The excessive use of descriptors really killed it for me. The story was just meh.

I’m not actually much of a Rom-Com lover, but was looking for something different. This book reeled me in first by being laugh-out-loud funny! I loved Maggie – the incredibly awkward klutz who gets herself into the most ridiculous situations. She reminded me a little of myself, only moreso. The setting of life inside the Tower of London is brought to very realistic life by the author actually having lived there, herself the daughter of a Beefeater. The romance was fun, and I found myself really rooting for both main characters. A minor complaint is that the “mean girls” (not all of whom are girls) are pretty over the top and unnecessary to the story. But I thoroughly enjoyed it and rushed right out to find more of the author’s books.
