This is no ordinary apocalypse…

Hannah Ashton wakes up to silence. The entire city around her is empty, except for one other person: Leo Sterling. Leo might be the hottest boy ever (and not just because he’s the only one left), but he’s also too charming, too selfish, and too much of a disaster for his own good, let alone Hannah’s.

Stuck with only each other, they explore a world with no parents, no friends, and no school and realize that they can be themselves instead of playing the parts everyone expects of them. Hannah doesn’t have to be just an overachieving, music-box-perfect ballerina, and Leo can be more than a slacker, 80s-glam-metal-obsessed guitarist. Leo is a burst of honesty and fun that draws Hannah out, and Hannah’s got Leo thinking about someone other than himself for the first time.

Together, they search for answers amid crushing isolation. But while their empty world may appear harmless . . . it’s not. Because nothing is quite as it seems, and if Hannah and Leo don’t figure out what’s going on, they might just be torn apart forever.

this book makes you feel like you’re literally there living it
“Sometimes it’s easier to be strong if someone else is showing cracks.”I picked up this book after making a post for my social media with books that fit specific vibes. The cover, title, and synopsis really drew me in and once I started reading – I was hooked. Brianna Bourne is magic when it comes to writing. The way that this book made me feel like I had been picked up and dropped into this vacant version of Houston right alongside Leo and Hannah was amazing. I absolutely loved the flow of her writing and how the story progresses without the big reveal up until the last moment and I was blown away by it by the time it came around. I had to pause the audiobook and take a moment. I definitely recommend this wonderfully, captivating YA novel!

Would be good for readers looking for a romance story
I’ll state right off the bat that although I read a lot of YA, I’m not the true target audience for the book, which might contribute to my overall opinion of the book. The story is told in alternating chapters between Hannah, a high-achieving high school student who has also dedicated much of her life to being an accomplished ballerina, and Leo, who is typical “bad boy” musician and a not-so-high achieving student. They have suddenly found themselves in an empty Houston, with no explanation of why this has happened, and must figure out what is going on.On the positive side, the author is a really good writer. Her style is crisp and clear, and stays away from overly flowery language, even in the more romantic descriptions. I liked Hannah’s character and the realizations she comes to throughout the book (I didn’t dislike Leo, but just didn’t connect with him as much). It’s an easy read.On the negative side, the dystopian aspect just doesn’t work and could be disappointing to readers who do a lot of reading in that genre. It becomes clearer when you figure out what is going on, but the first part of the book irritated me because the characters’ actions didn’t seem to “match” that (it’s hard to say too much here without giving away spoilers). There were also a lot of descriptions of how Hannah and Leo felt about each other, which might be good for a younger reader who is heavily focused on romance, but got tiresome for me. Finally, some of the facts were a little distorted which I always find off-putting (e.g., the heavy focus Hannah’s basement, when most homes in Houston don’t have basements at all, and even if they had one built, Leo referring to other people’s basements doesn’t make sense because they likely wouldn’t exist).Overall, I think this is best suited for a younger YA reader who is interested in romance (note: it’s primarily PG) and I can see this being popular among that type of reader.

My Daughter’s favorite book of all time.
My aunt gifted my 14 yo daughter with this book and she ate it up in a few hours. She is an avid reader and has informed me this is her favorite book of all time! She connected with the characters on a deep level. She found herself laughing out loud, as well as crying. She now has two copies so she can share with her friends cause she can’t recommend it enough. She said what she loved most about the book was the romance and the mystery. She enjoyed viewing the story through alternating perspectives and the ending. (Which is a surprise). As a mom I can say that this book is enjoyable not only for teens but for moms as well. My daughter is reading it again, for the third time as I write this review… I don’t think I’ve ever seen her read a book even twice before.

    Unique and touching story!
I really loved this book. What a sweet and unique story.Leo and Hannah’s voices read as so distinct and authentic, and I especially loved all of the references to music and ballet. I thought the characterization was done very well. I’m a huge sucker for a character-driven story, and the romance was incredibly sweet. With a plot surrounding only two characters, I never felt bored, and actually found myself anxiously flipping through the pages trying to figure out what was really going on.I’m also a sucker for anything speculative, so I adored those elements, as well as the twist at the end.Highly recommend!

This is one of the best books I’ve read. I don’t even have the words to explain how much I loved it! When they finally kissed at the end I burst out crying, it was just like FINALLY! It was perfect.*chefs kiss* if I could rate this a thousand stars, I would!

I loved this book, and it came in great condition no dents or anything. I love buying books on Amazon because they are so much cheaper and I almost always get shipping free, for easy deals! The only thing was this book was little easier than I though but still amazing!
