Amazon.com and Wall Street Journal #1 bestselling dark fantasy romance series from authors Caroline Peckham & Susanne Valenti – a Booktok sensation!
I’m a Gemini. Impulsive. Curious. Headstrong. A twin. Heir to a throne I know nothing about. And it turns out, I’m Fae.
But of course there’s a catch – all I have to do to claim my birth right is prove that I’m the most powerful supernatural in the whole of Solaria. And sure, technically that’s true as I’m the daughter of the Savage King. But the bit they didn’t put in the brochure was that every single Fae in this Kingdom would claim my throne if they could.
The school they’ve sent me to is both dangerous as sh*t and one helluva party. Vampires bite weaker students in the corridors, the Werewolf pack has orgies in the Wailing Wood at every full moon and don’t even get me started on the dark and twisted ways the Sirens use their powers on people’s emotions, or how my sinfully tempting Cardinal Magic teacher hosts detentions that leave people needing therapy.
Classes are totally interesting if you manage to live through them. And that Gemini star sign I mentioned? It now determines my elemental magic and affects my destiny, so learning astrology is essential if I’m going to beat down my classmates – which is actively encouraged by the way.
My biggest problem is the drool worthy Dragon shifter who has his eyes on my throne. He and his three psycho friends are determined to make my time here hell.
All I’ve got to do is survive. But fate might have other ideas.
Dammit, why couldn’t I have gotten a letter to Hogwarts?
***This is a enemies to lovers romantasy – don’t go expecting a sweet school for magic with friends around every corner. Fae fight for everything they own and Zodiac Academy is a cutthroat school for students aged 18+ where only the strongest prevail. There’s no Dumbledore here to save anyone’s ass and Lionel Acrux will give Voldemort a run for his money in the evil dictator category. So hold onto your stardust (broomsticks not required) and get ready for a bumpy ride***

Some ( Light ) Spoilers
Trigger Warning : bullying, emotional abuse, physical abuse, violence, abandonment, death, toxic relationships, body shaming, sexual harassmentI think I DNF’d this book at 15-20% at least 3 times. The writing takes a minute to get used to, at least for me. I also am just not a fan of the bully trope. It just rubs me the wrong way, but I am happy I finally gave it a real chance. This book falls under the “ not a masterpiece but it’s 5 stars “ category, for me. The entire magic system is unique, the fact that everyone is Fae but there are different categories i.e. werewolves, gorgons, nemean lions. I like how what your classification of Fae is gives you different powers on top of your elemental designation. I really enjoyed diving into this world. I can’t wait to see how it develops in the next book.Darcy and Tory feel like real, identical twins. They’re alike, but different and not in the stereotypical way that I feel like twins are usually portrayed in media. They both have their own individual faults and strengths, while still having shared traits. I do feel like their character growth is a little limited in this book, but I think that makes sense in the context of the book since Tory and Darcy are in a new world and trying to get their bearings. The Heirs. The authors do a good job of humanizing them enough that you never entirely despise the heirs, but that ending was rough to read. Using Darcy and Tory’s greatest fears against them is a pretty dark way to try to get them to submit to them. It also doesn’t make sense to me that the Heirs just won’t accept that Darcy and Tory have no interest in the throne. No matter how many times they tell them that they’re just here to collect their inheritance the Heirs refuse to listen. It feels like all of the bullying could’ve been avoided.Geraldine. I usually don’t single out side characters in my reviews, but wow this girl is just so cringe. I can’t decide if I love her or hate her all I know is she definitely gives me second hand embarrassment. That in and of itself is an achievement. The budding relationship between Orion and Darcy feels like what Pretty Little Liars was trying to do with Ezra and Aria. However, at least in this book Darcy is 18. I do kind of find it weird that as a teacher Orion is allowed to claim Darcy as his source. That seems like something that would be against the rules.I would compare this book to reality tv. It’s not the best writing, but it’s entertaining and highly addictive. I can’t wait to read the next one.Tropes : professor x student, bully romance, enemies to lovers, magical academy, found family, forbidden love, lost heirs//hidden royalty, slow burn, elemental magic, political intrigue, arranged marriage, fated mates

A Dark, Addictive Start to Zodiac Academy.
The Awakening introduces readers to Solaria, a world where power determines status, survival, and worth. The story centres on Darcy and Tory Vega, twins raised in the human world who are abruptly pulled into a fae society they never knew existed. Their arrival at Zodiac Academy immediately places them at the bottom of a rigid and unforgiving hierarchy. The Academy is dominated by four Celestial heirs who act as enforcers of the existing power structure. These characters are intentionally harsh and controlling, serving as clear antagonists rather than misunderstood rivals. Their presence establishes the darker tone of the book and reinforces the central theme that power is rarely given freely.Darcy and Tory are well-defined protagonists with contrasting personalities. Tory is confrontational and driven, while Darcy is more cautious and empathetic. Watching them adapt, struggle, and attempt to survive in an environment stacked against them was one of the book’s strongest elements. Their reactions to adversity felt grounded in their difficult upbringing and added emotional weight to the story. The supporting cast adds depth without overwhelming the main narrative. Diego and Sofia provide moments of loyalty and balance, while Professor Orion stands out as a particularly complex figure whose motivations are clearly more complicated than they initially appear.Romance is minimal in this instillment, with only subtle hints of future developments. Instead, the focus remains on character dynamics, power struggles, and establishing the foundations of the series. The pacing is quick, and the zodiac-based magic system adds an interesting layer to the academy setting. While I would have appreciated more detailed world-building beyond the Academy itself, the story remains engaging and sets up strong momentum for future books. Overall, The Awakening is a compelling and intense introduction to the Zodiac Academy series that left me eager to continue.

I devoured this book in 3 days. Is this book a literary masterpiece? No. Do I care? No. This book was addictive and I couldn’t put it down. The writing style is very easy to read. The Awakening is incredibly entertaining, like watching a train wreck in slow motion, but you can’t look away.Trigger Warnings:- Bullying is a main theme in this book, and some scenes can be uncomfortable to read. If this is a trigger for you, I would proceed with caution.

Dark , funny, sexy and absolutely fantastic …My first book by this two authors and I fell in love … I fell in love with Tory and Darius, I fell in love with the story.. I laugh.. a lot .. I cringe.. a lot too ..It’s not a nice love story where everything is pink .. it’s hard and a real BULLY story .. but it’s amazing. The story is dark and addicting, the characters endearing and so funny, the romance is … slow.. but we are going to wait…I loved it !

All of the stars…all of them… like 100 out of 5!!!Sorry but l’ve found my new obsession! This is either going to be my second or my first fav series of all time! I believe there’s 12 books in this seriesCheck any trigger warnings – there is bullying in this!Ok, where to start – at the beginning – it dives straight into it. No boring parts, no huge amounts of info dumps or build ups or head blagging. A nice pace straight into the story; I was hooked immediately. The pace and intrigue kept up throughout, never bored and I couldn’t put the book down. I finished it within 24 hours and when I wasn’t reading it, I was thinking about it 🫣I need to know more! The way the world is built, the magic system, the Orders…everything…I need more, which is why I can’t wait for the second book to arrive.I’m incredibly impatient about this 😳🤣The 2 twin FMCs Tory and Darcy are great characters, love the differences in their characters and how each one is tackling their own issues and ways of dealing with their new found fae heritage. The bullying side of things is doing all kinds of roller coaster things to me because I was badly bullied at school…so be very aware of that before reading! There is bit of 🌶️ but not loads and a lot of angst, tension and suspense. It’s like Hogwarts for adults! 🔥🔥🔥
